Summer Sangria Fun
Hope everyone’s Canada day was amazing! Summer seems to now be in full force in Edmonton and the surrounding area and we’re really going to feel it this week with highs of 20 and above! What is the best way to deal with the summer heat? Well, with a nice, ice-chilled backyard summer sangria of course! Summer is all about letting loose, enjoying friends, family, and the sun!
Here’s a recipe provided by our very own Nathan Satanove!
“Sangria is a wine punch that consists of chopped fruits, white or red wine and served on ice. Sangria originates from Spain, but it is widely enjoyed throughout the Mediterranean and in my case, the back yards of Sherwood Park.
• A big pitcher
• 2 cups of ice
• One bottle of chilled wine (your choice) We like Pinot Grigio or a Sauvignon Blanc.
• Slice one orange, lime, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries so on and so forth. Add all the fresh fruit you desire. The more the better!
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 2 oz brandy (optional)
• 1/2 litre of soda water or if you have a sweet tooth use ginger ale
• Pour wine into the pitcher over the ice and squeeze the juices from the orange and lime into the wine. Add brandy if desired. Then toss in all of the berries and other desired fruits. Add the sugar and top off with the soda.
Don’t be shy, invite a neighbour over to enjoy this flavourful wine concoction.
Sangria is great along side a pasta, salad or served with cheeses and bread.
Sangria can be made for the kids as well by substituting the vino for a mixture of 7-up and Ginger ale.”
So, what are you waiting for? Time for some summer sippin’ backyard fun! Enjoy!
