Ask The Expert: With Nathan Satanove

School is just around the corner and this is the time that parents start to feel the time in the day get shorter and shorter with more and more things to do. As a result, some things get left to the wayside, and what often will suffer is meal time.

Fast food drive throughs become common place with the quicker the better, but what you really need is food that is, as we always say, real, fresh, and fast. We also know, however, that you can’t always eat at Pasta Pantry, so Nathan Satanove has provided another great recipe that is quick, easy, and delicious.

Here is a recipe for Pasta and Pizza Buns.

Note: aside from the cheese, you can buy everything necessary at Pasta Pantry to be prepped at home.

Serves 4 hungry teens – Prep/cook time 15min

• 800 grams fresh pasta
• 32 oz meat sauce
• 150 grams cheese of choice
• 4 whole wheat buns

Instructions:

• Preheat oven to 400F.
• Put on a large pot of water to boil.
• Halve buns and place them on a cookie sheet.
• Put one tablespoon of pasta sauce on each bun and spread to cover the entire surface.
• Shred the cheese. (My house prefers Asiago for this dish). Put half aside while using the other half to top the buns.
• On medium heat place pasta sauce in a sauce pan. Stirring often so the sauce does not burn.
• Put a drop of olive oil into the boiling water. Salt water until it tastes of the Mediterranean sea. Then place the pasta in the boiling water. Stir and cover.
• Put the buns into oven.
• When the water comes back to a boil uncover and stir. Strain pasta when its cooked to your desired liking. Fresh pasta cooks faster than dry pasta. Plan 3-4 min total cooking time for fresh pasta to be al dente. Cooking time will vary depending on type of pasta.
• Strain pasta in a colander over the the sink shaking it well to drain all the water.
• Place pasta directly into the sauce pan and toss gently covering the pasta.
• Sprinkle the remaining cheese onto the pasta while not forgetting to remove the buns from the oven.

Now on your way to soccer practice there is only one thing to worry about.

“Did I turn the oven off?”
