The Meaning Behind “Real Food, Real Fresh, Real Fast!”

Real Food, Real Fresh, Real Fast is more than just a motto at Pasta Pantry. You’ve probably seen our sign at our restaurant, but have you ever wondered what that actually means? We’ve broken it down into 3 parts (Real Food, Real Fresh, and Real Fast) to show you that this phrase is used for more than just decorative purposes.

Real Food

Are you a fan of bland, processed foods with little to no nutritional value? Neither are we. Our foods are made from the highest quality ingredients possible, like our Chicken Parmigiana and our Tuscan Grilled Chicken, both of which are made using chicken breasts that are fresh, organic, and free of any fillers and preservatives. We also go the extra mile with our Tomato Vegetable Soup and our Minestrone Soup, both of which contain practically every vegetable under the sun!

Although we understand that using these types of ingredients costs a bit more than going with conventional foods, we know how much of a difference it makes when it ends up on the most important place: your plate!

Real Fresh

We use fresh ingredients in everything we make because our approach to preparing and cooking meals revolves around giving you the best possible dish. Our pasta is made fresh daily using the finest durum semolina grown and milled here in Canada, while our sauces are also made fresh using the ingredients that are packed with health benefits. This ensures that you’re getting the best quality foods whether you’re dining at our restaurant or you’re using our foods for cooking at home. For more information on how you can experience Pasta Pantry’s pasta and sauce at home, visit this link!

Preparing Pasta at Home: a Pasta Pantry Primer

Call us crazy, but we think pasta and sauce can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Whether it’s lunch, dinner or a late night snack, this combination is responsible for satisfying the cravings of many hungry residents in Sherwood Park and Edmonton that come through our doors. But what if you want to get your pasta fix in the comfort of your own home? Never fear, this guide will show you how you can get that same great Pasta Pantry experience using the same items as your favourite Trattoria.

First things first: the measurements and the ingredients. Because there’s no such thing as portion control when it comes to pasta (it’s guaranteed that as soon as you start making some, you’ll realize it’s not enough, your best best is to make more than you think you need. Making a big batch means you’ll have enough pasta for the whole family; it also means you’ll have multiple healthy meals throughout the week that you can grab at a moment’s notice.

While you could use store bought pasta and sauce, there’s a much more nutritious option that’ll give you more flavours: our Pasta Pantry pasta and sauce! Each one of our pastas and sauces are homemade: the former is made fresh each and every day from Canadian grown milled durum semolina, while the latter is made using only the best ingredients possible.  We have different varieties of pasta cuts each day, so if you’re interested in a particular type, feel free to give us a call at 780-467-3777 to find out what the pastas of the day are or to make a request.

Once you get that taken care of, you’ll want to boil a big pot of water. Make sure to include a generous amount of salt and oil; these ingredients make a significant difference on the finished product. Salt water gives pasta that distinctive flavour, while a bit of oil helps prevent the pasta from clumping together. When the water it ready, toss your pasta in and let them cook. Depending on how much water and pasta you’re using, cooking times will vary. Your goal should be to get the pasta cooked enough so that it’s slightly firm and gives off a bit of resistance (this is also known as “al dente.”) Once it’s ready, drain the water, apply your favourite sauce, give it a good mix, and enjoy!

When it comes to picking pasta, we’ve got a few different cuts for you to try. We’ve got twenty different types to pick from and we use 4 or 5 each day. The pasta is made fresh each and every day from milled durum semolina flour that’s grown in Canada. From Lumaconi to Penne to Linguine, we give you a variety of options.  If you’re going gluten free, there’s no need to worry. Not only is our corn pasta non-GMO and imported from Italy, but it’s just as delicious as our other pasta cuts!

In terms of sauces, you’ve got plenty to choose from. We’ve got the staples like our meat, Alfredo and pesto sauces, as well as some that aren’t as common like our spicy Italian sausage, vegetable tomato and our four cheese! The best part of all? We encourage to mix things up! While there’s nothing wrong with picking a single sauce, feel free to experiment and find your perfect pasta plate. With all of the different combinations available, you can have a different tasting meal each time you come to Pasta Pantry! You can even top things off with a mouth-watering meatball to turn things up another notch! (Check out this post for an in-depth look of how our Pasta Pantry meatballs are made.)
